Video Intercom & Gate Automation Across the Northeast

See who's at your gate, talk to them, and open it — all from your phone, anywhere in the world. AI-powered license plate recognition automatically opens gates for recognized vehicles while logging every visitor.

For 18 years, Software Que has been building intelligent entry systems for homes, businesses, and communities across the Northeast — from gated estates in Rhode Island to apartment complexes in northern New Jersey and commercial properties throughout New York and Pennsylvania. Our video intercom and gate automation solutions combine Ubiquiti's UniFi ecosystem into a single, unified platform that handles video verification, access control, and automatic gate operation without monthly fees or third-party subscriptions.

The foundation of every entry system we build starts with the UniFi G4 or G6 Doorbell Pro — a two-way HD video intercom that delivers crystal-clear audio and video at any entry point. Whether mounted at a driveway gate, building entrance, or loading dock, the Doorbell Pro lets you see exactly who's requesting access, have a full two-way conversation, and grant or deny entry from the UniFi Protect app on your phone. No more walking to the gate to check who rang the buzzer. No more guessing who's at the door. You get a live HD video feed with person detection AI that alerts you the moment someone approaches, even before they press the button.

Where our gate automation installations really separate from the competition is AI-powered License Plate Recognition. We deploy UniFi AI cameras with built-in LPR capability at gate entries, and the system automatically reads and logs every license plate that approaches. For gated communities, this means residents' vehicles are recognized instantly — the gate opens automatically as their car approaches, creating a seamless, hands-free entry experience. Visitor vehicles are logged with timestamped plate photos, and unknown plates can trigger alerts or simply be denied automatic access. For commercial properties, LPR transforms fleet management by automatically logging every truck, delivery vehicle, and employee car that enters and exits your facility.

UniFi Access takes gate and door control to another level. The system manages electric gate motors, magnetic locks, electric strikes, and barrier arms through a centralized controller that integrates directly with your UniFi network. Employees can access gates using NFC cards, mobile credentials on their phones, or PIN codes — and you can assign different access levels to different people. A delivery driver might get a temporary one-time access code that expires after a single use, while a building manager gets 24/7 unrestricted access across all entry points. Every access event is logged with a timestamp, credential ID, and — when paired with cameras — a photo of who actually entered.

For apartment buildings and multi-tenant properties, our video intercom systems replace outdated buzzer panels with a modern, intuitive experience. Residents get a video call on their phone when someone requests access at the main entrance — they can see the visitor on HD video, talk to them, and remotely unlock the door, whether they're in their apartment or on the other side of the country. Property managers get a centralized dashboard to manage all resident access, issue and revoke credentials, and review a complete log of every entry and exit. No more lost keys, no more unauthorized fob copies, and no more tenants propping doors open because the buzzer system is too inconvenient to use.

Every component in our gate automation systems is PoE-powered — that means a single ethernet cable delivers both data and power to cameras, intercoms, and access readers. No separate power runs, no electrician needed at the gate post, and no low-voltage transformers to fail. The system is designed to work even when the internet goes down — UniFi Access controllers process credentials locally, so authorized users can still open gates during an outage. When connectivity returns, all access logs sync automatically.

We integrate horn speakers and floodlight cameras at gate entries for added security and functionality. Horn speakers can broadcast announcements — 'Please pull forward,' 'Delivery entrance is around back,' or automated alerts triggered by motion detection. Floodlight cameras illuminate the gate area at night while capturing high-resolution video of every vehicle and person. Combined with AI detection for people, vehicles, and license plates, you get a complete picture of who's coming and going, 24/7.

Our installations span the full range of property types across all six states we serve. Luxury homeowners in Newport and Princeton get driveway gate systems with LPR that auto-open for family vehicles and let them talk to delivery drivers from their phone. HOA communities in Connecticut and Westchester get shared access management with temporary visitor codes and resident plate databases. Warehouses along the I-95 corridor get truck gate automation with fleet LPR logging. Apartment buildings in Jersey City and Providence get modern video intercom systems that replace decades-old buzzer panels. Every system is managed from a single UniFi OS dashboard — one app for your cameras, intercoms, gate controllers, and network, with no monthly fees.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can LPR automatically open my gate for my family's cars?

Absolutely. We register your family's license plates in the UniFi system, and the AI camera reads each plate as vehicles approach. When a recognized plate is detected, the gate opens automatically — no remote needed, no button to press. You can add or remove plates anytime from the app. Unrecognized vehicles are logged but won't trigger automatic opening, so you always know who's coming and going.

Does the video intercom work with existing gate motors?

Yes. The UniFi Access controller connects to most standard electric gate motors, magnetic locks, and barrier arms via dry-contact relay. If your existing gate hardware is in good condition, we typically integrate with it rather than replacing it. During our free assessment, we'll evaluate your current gate motor and recommend whether integration or upgrade makes more sense for your situation.

How does visitor management work for apartment buildings?

When a visitor presses the intercom at the building entrance, the resident receives a video call on their phone through the UniFi app. They see the visitor on HD video, can have a two-way conversation, and tap to unlock the door remotely. Property managers can issue temporary access codes for contractors, delivery services, or guests. Every entry is logged with a timestamp and — if cameras are present — a photo. Managers have a centralized dashboard to add/remove residents, review access logs, and manage all entry points.

What happens if the internet goes down?

The system continues to work. UniFi Access controllers store credentials locally on the device, so NFC cards, mobile credentials, and PIN codes still function during an internet outage. LPR-based automatic opening also continues working because the AI processing happens on the camera itself, not in the cloud. When connectivity returns, all access events sync to your dashboard automatically. This offline-first design is one of the key advantages of the UniFi platform over cloud-dependent competitors.

Can I see who came and went with timestamps?

Yes — every access event is logged with a precise timestamp, the credential used (NFC card, mobile, PIN, or LPR plate), and the entry point. When integrated with UniFi Protect cameras, each event also includes a snapshot or video clip of the person or vehicle. You can search and filter logs by date, person, credential type, or entry point. These logs are stored locally on your UniFi console with no cloud dependency and no storage fees.
